What is in Guru Nanak Ji’s hand?

One day, Guru Nanak Dev Ji held some money in his hand and asked his sons, “Tell me, what is in my hand?” His sons replied, “Father, you have closed your fist, but there is money in your hand.” Guru Nanak then asked the Sangat the same question, and they too answered, “Guru Ji, there is money in your hand.”

Finally, Guru Nanak turned to Bhai Lehna Ji and asked, “Tell me, what is in my hand?” Bhai Lehna Ji humbly replied, “My awareness is not elevated enough to discern what is in Guru Nanak’s hand.” Guru Ji pressed him again, saying, “Everyone else says there is money in my hand. What do you see?” Bhai Lehna Ji, immersed in deep reverence, responded with profound wisdom, “In your hand, there is meditation (Jap), penance (Tap), spiritual discipline (Yog), divine connection (Sangat), truth (Sat), charity (Daan), and purity (Ishnan).” He added, “In your hand lies the power to provide shelter to those who have been rejected by the world and guide them back to God’s path.
