The Miracle of Bhai Pheru’s Ghee Pot: A Story of Guru Har Rai Ji’s Blessings

In the village of Ambmari (Lahore district) lived a Khatri trader named Bhai Sangat, who earned the nickname “Pheru” because he traveled selling goods. Drawn by Guru Har Rai Ji’s glory, he came to Kiratpur Sahib and began attending the Guru’s court daily.

One day, as Bhai Bhagtu fed workers harvesting Guru Ji’s fields, he asked Bhai Pheru—who happened to be passing by with ghee—to share some. Bhai Pheru generously added a spoonful to each worker’s meal. Returning home, he left his now-empty ghee pot in a room.

The next morning, he gasped—the pot was miraculously full again! Realizing this was Guru Ji’s divine blessing, Bhai Pheru abandoned his wandering trade and devoted himself to serving the Guru Ghar.

Moved by his devotion, Guru Har Rai Ji:

  • Renamed him “Bhai Sangat Pheru” (dropping “pheri wala”)
  • Blessed him to serve Langar
  • Appointed him Masand of Nakka region
  • Honored him with the title “Sangat Sahib” for his humility

This simple ghee pot became a vessel of faith—proving that selfless service (seva) invites Guru’s endless grace.

Sat Sri Akal! 🙏
