Gurdwara Sri Harian Vellan Sahib: Where Guru Har Rai Ji’s blessings blossom

Nestled in the serene landscapes of Punjab, Gurdwara Sri Harian Vellan Sahib stands as a living testament to the divine visit of Guru Har Rai Ji (7th Sikh Guru) in 1651 CE. Accompanied by his wife and 22 devoted riders from Kiratpur Sahib, Guru Ji’s three-day stay here transformed this humble village into a sacred sanctuary.

The Miracle of the Evergreen Fodder

During his stay, Guru Har Rai Ji noticed Baba Prajapati, a devout follower, feeding his horse with a unique, lush green fodder. When asked, Baba revealed it grew from wild vine roots near his home. Moved by his devotion, Guru Ji blessed the land:
“This place shall remain eternally green.”
To this day, the area flourishes with vegetation—and the very date palm tree where Guru Ji tied his horse still stands near Nishan Sahib.

A Spiritual Haven

  • Gurbani’s Sweetness: Guru Har Rai Ji enchanted devotees with divine hymns and spiritual guidance, deepening their connection to Guru Nanak’s teachings.
  • Sahibzada Ajit Singh’s Valor: In 1703 CE, the elder son of Guru Gobind Singh Ji arrived with 100 Khalsa warriors after rescuing Brahmin Param’s wife from the tyrant Jabar Khan. The ensuing battle saw many Singhs martyred—their last rites performed at Gurdwara Shaheedan nearby.
  • Justice Served: Jabar Khan was captured and taken to Anandpur Sahib, where he faced punishment under Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s orders.

Sacred Relics & Healing Waters

  • Nishan Sahib: A striking blue Nishan Sahib flutters proudly, marking the Guru’s presence.
  • Marble Platform: To the right of the Gurdwara’s entrance, a marble memorial honors the martyrs.
  • Guru’s Blessing: “Whoever bathes here with devotion shall be freed from suffering and disease.” The surrounding mango groves amplify the sanctity of this promise.

A Timeless Pilgrimage

From Guru Har Rai Ji’s compassion to Sahibzada Ajit Singh’s bravery, this Gurdwara echoes with faith, courage, and miracles. Visitors today still feel the Guru’s grace in its tranquil ambiance and healing energy.
