Nestled in the heart of Amritsar, Gurdwara Sri Pipli Sahib stands as a living testament to three great Sikh Gurus – Guru Ramdas Ji, Guru Arjan Dev Ji, and Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji. This holy site, surrounded by dense Pipli trees along the historic Lahore route, holds stories of faith, conflict, and divine justice.

Guru Ramdas Ji first established this place by having a well constructed here. The location took on greater significance during Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s time, when Prithi Chand, the Guru’s elder brother, began intercepting offerings meant for the langar. The situation became so dire that when Bhai Gurdas Ji returned from Agra, he discovered the community kitchen in disarray. After learning of Prithi Chand’s deceit from Bibi Bhani Ji, Bhai Gurdas and Baba Buddha Ji took decisive action. They sat at this very spot, spreading a sheet to receive offerings from devotees traveling from Kabul, Kandahar, and western regions. Recognizing these revered figures, the pilgrims entrusted their offerings to them instead, ensuring the Guru’s langar was properly maintained.
The grounds also witnessed Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji’s martial valor. It was here that the Sixth Guru triumphed over the tyrant Mukhlis Khan in his first battle. After his victory, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji paused at this sacred spot to rest, loosening his waistband and drinking water before continuing his journey.
Every brick of Gurdwara Sri Pipli Sahib whispers these stories – of devotion tested, justice served, and the unbroken spirit of the Gurus that continues to inspire generations of Sikhs. The well dug by Guru Ramdas Ji still quenches thirsts, just as the lessons from these historic events continue to nourish souls.
