When Guru Gobind Singh Ji was just eight years old, he traveled from Lakhnaur to Ambala with his maternal uncle, Kirpal Chand, for a hunting expedition. With him was his prized white falcon. As they passed through the city, Nawab Amiruddin of Ambala stood in his garden, watching. The moment he spotted Guru Ji’s magnificent falcon, greed took hold of him.
The Nawab insisted that Guru Ji pit his falcon against his own in a fight. Sensing the Nawab’s dishonorable intentions—he simply wanted to seize the bird—Guru Ji calmly refused. Instead, he proposed a contest between sparrows. The Nawab laughed mockingly, dismissing the idea. “Sparrows are mere prey,” he said. “Fight with falcons!”
Guru Ji remained firm, repeating his challenge. Frustrated, the Nawab snapped, “Where are these sparrows you speak of?” At Guru Ji’s command, two sparrows appeared from a nearby tree, attacking the Nawab’s falcon with such ferocity that they ultimately brought it down. Stunned by this divine miracle, the Nawab could only watch in disbelief.
Today, Gurdwara Gobindpura Sahib in Ambala, Haryana, stands as a testament to this extraordinary event. Sat Sri Akal.
