Nestled on the serene banks of the Beas River in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, Gurdwara Sri Patan Sahib (also called Gurdwara Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Sahib) stands as a living testament to the Tenth Guru’s divine presence.

A Historic Stay of Divine Significance
In 179 Bikrami Samvat (1722 CE), Guru Gobind Singh Ji accepted the invitation of Raja Sidh Sen of Mandi, residing here for 6 months and 18 days. During this time:
- Guru Ji’s mother, Mata Sundari Ji, was housed with royal honor in Mandi’s palace (now marked by Gurdwara Damdama Sahib).
- The Guru meditated daily on a stone slab in the Beas River—still preserved as a sacred relic.
- He practiced archery and martial arts, leaving behind artifacts like his rabab (musical instrument), gun, gunpowder flask, and personal bedding, now displayed as sacred memorabilia.
The Guru’s Prophetic Blessing
When Raja Sidh Sen feared Aurangzeb’s retaliation after Guru Ji’s departure, the Guru performed a miraculous test:
- He shot an arrow at a floating pot in the river.
- As the pot remained unharmed, he declared:
“Jyon ki Mandi rahegi, tyon ki pateli rahegi!”
(“As long as this pot remains intact, so shall Mandi remain protected!”). - To this day, Mandi has never been conquered—a fulfillment of the Guru’s divine promise.

Sacred Relics & Pilgrimage
Devotees can still witness:
- The Guru’s meditation stone in the Beas.
- His personal belongings, including weapons and spiritual tools.
- The tranquil gurdwara complex, where the Sangat feels the Guru’s eternal presence.
A visit here isn’t just a journey—it’s an immersion in Guru Ji’s warrior spirit and boundless grace.
