Gurudwara Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib’s Tal Sahib is located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, near the Agra-Delhi Road. This sacred place is connected to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s final journey toward martyrdom. At the request of the Kashmiri Pandits, Guru Sahib departed from Anandpur Sahib toward Delhi, accompanied by Bhai Mati Das Ji, Bhai Sati Das Ji, Bhai Dayala Ji, Bhai Gurditta Ji, Bhai Uda Ji, and Bhai Jaita Ji.
During their journey, they stopped in Agra. According to historical accounts, a shepherd named Hasan Ali lived here with his family. Wishing to gain the reward for turning in the “Hindu Pir,” his family prayed that if such a figure was to be arrested, he should come to them. Fulfilling this wish, Guru Sahib arrived in Agra and rested in a garden beside a pond just outside the city—a place now known as Gurudwara Sri Manji Sahib.

While Hasan Ali was grazing his sheep and goats, Guru Ji called him and said they were hungry. He handed Hasan Ali a sweet dish and a diamond-studded ring worth eight crores, asking him to bring sweets from the city. Hasan Ali took the items to a sweet shop, where the shopkeeper, upon seeing the valuable ring, grew suspicious. Thinking the items might have been stolen, the shopkeeper questioned Hasan Ali, who nervously claimed that the man who gave them was sitting outside the city with his companions on horseback.
Soon, Bhotwal, accompanied by many soldiers, arrived at the garden with Hasan Ali. When asked who he was, Guru Sahib calmly replied, “Our name is Bahadur” (brave one). He and his accompanying Sikhs were arrested and held for nine days in a cell known as Bhora Sahib, located beneath the main Darbar Sahib. The arrest was made public, and Guru Sahib fulfilled Hasan Ali’s wish by giving him 500 gold mohars.
From there, under heavy military escort, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was taken to Delhi, where he ultimately gave his life at Chandni Chowk, sacrificing himself for the protection of religious freedom.
