The Crowded Gurdwara with a Rich History

The Crowded Gurdwara with a Rich History

When Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji embarked on a pilgrimage, He made a stop at Burhanpur. A massive crowd of devotees gathered to seek His darshan, and because of this immense gathering, the Gurdwara established here became known as the Bari Sangat. Even today, this Gurdwara holds a special place in Sikh history. During His stay, Guru Ji met a Jogi named Jivan Das and guided him toward the true path of spiritual life, inspiring him to attain Jivan Mukti. Guru Ji remained in Burhanpur for around 20 days.

Spread across 38 acres, this Gurdwara safeguards a very old Bir, personally signed by Guru Ji. The sacred scripture is displayed to the congregation only on special occasions. Though the golden borders and inscriptions on its pages remain vibrant, the pages themselves are growing fragile. Alongside this precious Bir, some ancient weapons are also preserved with reverence, each narrating tales of Guru Sahib Ji’s legacy.

After Guru Ji’s time, His son, Ajit Singh Ji’s wife, and their son, Hathi Singh, continued to reside here. Their memorials stand at the back of the Gurdwara, honoring their connection to this holy site.
