The transformation of Roda Jalali

One day, a renowned Kalali Sadhu named Roda Jalali arrived at the court of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He often wandered the hills of Anandpur Sahib, and this time, he entered Guru Ji’s presence after picking flowers from the garden. But his mind was clouded with doubt—he wondered, “If Guru Ji is truly divine, he will reveal where I’ve hidden my gold coins.” With this thought, he greeted Guru Sahib and sat quietly.

Guru Ji, knowing his heart, asked why he had brought flowers. Roda Jalali replied, “Maharaj, it is our custom not to come empty-handed. I had nothing else, so I brought these flowers.” At that moment, Guru Ji’s divine power manifested—Roda’s cap lifted slightly, and five gold coins tumbled out, astonishing the entire congregation. Laughter filled the court as Roda Jalali stood stunned, his secret exposed. Overcome with shame, he fell at Guru Ji’s feet, begging for forgiveness before leaving humbly.

Guru Ji then revealed the deeper truth: “These flowers carry no fragrance—only the sorrow of betrayal.” Roda had once deceived a couple, Sona and Mona, and now, through Guru Ji’s grace, they too were present. Moved by compassion, they pleaded for Roda’s redemption. Touched by their kindness, Guru Ji blessed him, saying, “From now on, you shall be ‘Jalali’—one who carries the radiance of the Divine Name within.”

In that moment, the five deceitful traits and hypocrisies within Roda melted away. Reborn through the Guru’s mercy, he became a beacon of truth, mending broken hearts with love and uniting souls with the beauty of Waheguru’s name.
