Why do we feel sleepy or distracted during Paath? Spiritual & Scientific reasons

When reciting Gurbani or doing Simran, many experience sleepiness, negative thoughts, or lack of focus. This isn’t just random—it has spiritual and psychological causes, along with solutions.

1. Good Changes (Divine Presence)

If during Paath:
A few yawns come, but afterward, your mind feels clearer and more focused—this is a positive shift.
Tears well up (without sadness) or you feel deep love for Gurbani—this indicates holy souls (pavitr atmas) are near, blessing your meditation.
Sudden inspiration to recite more Bani or do extra Jaap means divine energy is elevating you.

Deep Love of Gurbani

“When pure souls surround you, they amplify your devotion—making the Bani feel alive.”

2. Bad Changes (Negative Influences)

If during Paath:
Heavy drowsiness, fatigue, or sudden negativity arises.
Disturbing thoughts (fear, lust, anger) distract you.
❌ You feel an urge to stop reciting—this is Maya or evil forces trying to block your spiritual progress.

Why Does This Happen?

  • Kalyug’s Pollution: Negative energies resist spiritual growth.
  • Unconscious Stress: The mind’s suppressed impurities surface during meditation.
  • Lack of Routine: Irregular Paath makes the mind restless.

3. Solutions (Gurmat Way to Overcome)

Don’t Stop!

    • Even if distracted, continue reciting. The Bani itself cleanses negativity.

    Wash Your Mind with Naam

      • Like soap removes dirt, regular Simran purifies thoughts.

      Fix a Time & Place

        • Early morning (Amritvela) is ideal when the mind is fresh.

        Protective Measures

          • Recite Mool Mantar or Chaupai Sahib before starting.
          • Keep Guru’s Saroop (photo or Gutka) in front of you.

          Physical Adjustments

            • Sit in proper posture (avoid lying down).
            • Splash cold water on your face if sleepy.

            Final Wisdom

            • Good thoughts? → Divine souls are guiding you.
            • Bad thoughts? → Kali Yuga’s illusions—fight them with Gurbani.

“Gurbani is the sword that cuts through darkness—keep wielding it.” ⚔️
