Among the thousands of Gurdwaras worldwide, Gurdwara Baba Sidhsar Sahib in Chambal village (Tarn Taran) stands out for one extraordinary reason: it is the only Gurdwara where patients are forbidden from eating langar—a rule set by Guru Arjan Dev Ji himself.

The Legend of Baba Sidhsar Sahib
- A devout Sikh of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, Baba Sidhsar Sahib would walk 10 km daily from Chambal to serve at Tarn Taran Sahib’s Sarovar construction, carrying firewood for langar.
- Though he served selflessly, he never ate the Guru’s langar, drinking only water from his village.
- When a leper begged Guru Arjan Dev Ji for a cure, the Guru called Baba Sidhsar Sahib forward, revealing his spiritual power:“Touch this leper with your turban, and he shall be healed.”
- Reluctantly, Baba Ji obeyed—and the leper was cured instantly.
Guru Arjan’s Divine Decree
- Baba Sidhsar Sahib pleaded: “I am poor—what if patients flock to me and leave hungry?”
- Guru Ji declared:
- Patients must not eat langar at this Gurdwara (though attendants can).
- They must bring 1.5 kg jaggery (or its cost) as offering.
- Healing comes through sacred soil (Raka) from the village, applied with devotion.

The Healing Ritual (Even Today!)
- Take Raka: Sacred soil is given to patients.
- Daily Application: Mix with water, apply on affected areas at dawn.
- Strict Rules:
- No meat, alcohol, or intoxicants.
- Married couples must abstain from intimacy during treatment.
- Full cure typically takes 40 days.
Why This Exception?
- Guru Arjan Dev Ji ensured the Gurdwara remained a place of service, not dependency.
- The ban on langar for patients preserves the sanctity of seva—teaching that faith, not food, heals.
“At Baba Sidhsar Sahib, the cure isn’t in the plate—it’s in the soil blessed by Guru’s word.”
